SunCulture Protect, Simplified

Hospital Cash

Qualify for a hospital Cash back of UGX 30,000 per night in case you are admitted for one (1) night or more at a hospital registered by the Ministry of Health. Max 30 nights a year

Life

In the unfortunate event of your passing, your family will receive UGX 1,500,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Customers who have bought SunCulture’s Solar Pumps on PayG.
  2. Customers who make timely payments on their loans.

Policy Activation

All policies begin after the pump installation has been completed.

Exclusions

Risks occurring as a result of drug or alcohol abuse, engaging in criminal activity, riots, demonstrations, suicide, self-inflicted injury, war or terrorism cannot be claimed.

How to Claim

Report, verify, get paid.

Our claims process is conducted over WhatsApp, phone call or SMS.

All claims are paid within 3 working days (typically 24 hours) upon receiving relevant documentation.

1.Reporting

Customer notifies us of the incident directly or through our partner organization.

2. Reach Out

We call the customer to walk them through what is required to claim.

3. Documentation

Customer submits digital records of proof, via WhatsApp.

4. Follow-Up

We call the customer as much as needed to ensure they complete their claim.

5. Verification

We review the claim and establish its validity using our proprietary tech and behavioural psychology.

6. Pay-Out

Sunculture receives the outstanding loan amount.Customer receives their claim benefit via mobile money wallet.

All claims should be reported within a maximum of one (1) week after the occurrence of the claim event. Claims are processed within three working days after all documents are received.

For every claim, please attach a clear copy of your ID card—both sides.

Claim Documents Required

In case of Death

  1. One of the following sets of documents proving death:
    • – A Death certificate; OR
    • – Certified letter from a local administrative authority or officiating religious authority and a mortuary receipt/ burial permit; OR
    • – Burial Permit and coroner’s report/ mortuary receipt
  2. Loan amortisation schedule (for Credit Life claims)
  3. Copy of the deceased’s identification document (showing name and age/ date of birth)

In case of Disability

A Medical statement from a registered doctor certifying the date, nature and cause of the disability
In case of hospitalisation
  1. Stamped discharge summary or Hospital report showing date of admission, date of discharge and treatment received.
  2. Stamped hospital invoice or receipt with patient name (stamped) OR NHIF SMS screenshot

The new insurance product (SunCulture Protect) is an insurance cover for all new SunCulture PayG Loan customers. It is offered in partnership with renowned insurer Turaco and covers beneficiaries against risks like hospitalisation, permanent disability and death.
No. The insurance product is offered in partnership with Turaco, a mass-market insurance provider that designs and delivers simple, affordable insurance. This partnership supports our mission and goals to help smallholder farmers grow by enabling us to provide risk protection for customers paying in instalments (PAYG model), thereby reducing their worry and fear of financial loss as they progress through their loan journey.
Must be a SunCulture PayG customer, 18 years and above and residing within Uganda.
The insurance offer covers;
Hospital Cash: Which provides financial support/payout in the event of hospitalisation at any accredited Ministry of Health medical facility.
Last Expense(s): Which provides financial support/payout to the customer or their next of kin in the event that a member passes away.
No. The coverage begins after the pump installation has been completed.
No. Currently, the insurance product is included in all new PayG loans from SunCulture. The monthly premiums are included in the monthly loan instalments.
Similarly, the insurance product cannot be purchased alone yet (even for SunCulture Cash Customers).
Claim requests will be through 0800 388 383/WhatsApp 0781 084 353 OR 0700 282 252 and must be sent as soon as possible after the occurrence of the claim event. Claims will typically be processed within 3 working days.
Typically, you will need the following documents to support your claim(although sometimes Turaco might ask you to submit some more specific support, if reasonably required);

For all claims: Copy of ID Card (Front and Back).

Benefits are only claimed in case the event covered occurs (hospitalisation, disability or death). The purpose of the insurance cover is to give you peace of mind that you are protected in case an unfortunate event happens.
The insurance cover is only active during the duration of the loan.
No. Currently, the insurance only covers the customer as an individual (and their spouse and children for Family Cover) and not the product itself.
Yes. Hospitalisation, disability or death that occurs as a result of drug or alcohol abuse, engaging in criminal activity, riots/demonstrations, suicide, self-inflicted injury, war or terrorism cannot be claimed.
The claim amount depends on the trigger event and the package the customer enrolled in (Basic or Premium).
